Approve Minutes of April 3, 2014
The commission approved the minutes of April 3, 2014.
New Business
Environmental News
Lauralyn reported that the environmental bills were still alive, but we may not know the outcome until the very end of the session on May 7. She spoke with Senator Meyer at the Legislative Office Building earlier in the day and he believed the fracking bill was going to be heard soon. Senators Meyer and Williams, both champions for the environment will be retiring this year.
Linda shared news of Richard Conniff’s article on Rogers Lake in the NY Times.
Ongoing Business
Outreach
Maureen’s proposal of a bike path map/information sheet that highlights natural areas in town was discussed. The designer has been out of town. It may not be possible to get this done for the Tour de Lyme, but it could be completed for the bulk mailing by the RLA.
Linda submitted her article on barrier gardens for the June Events. She provided the Naturework’s link to the town hall to be added to the list of additional information on the Conservation Commission’s page. This link would provide the necessary information for residents interested in organic lawn care.
George reported that he is working with Zach Abrahamsson on clearing the trails and is grateful for his help. George mentioned Zach is interested in attending Syracuse University where he hopes to major in Environmental Science.
Rogers Lake
George updated members on the watershed project. He submitted the proposal to zoning. The proposed farm zone would prevent the development of 500 acres greatly reducing runoff into Ogle Pond and ultimately the lake.
Tom and Maureen shared news regarding the boathouse committee meeting they attended. Nina Peck has been selected as architect; a drainage pipe and a reconfigured parking lot were a few of the suggested ideas.
The meeting adjourned at 8:29 pm.
